Acclimate Angelfish
Acclimating angelfish is an important process when introducing them to a new aquarium, starting by floating the fish bag in the aquarium to equalize the temperature. Gradually add small amounts of tank water to the bag over about 15-20 min. Afterward, gently net the fish and place it in the tank. This minimizes stress and helps the fish adjust to its new environment. Proper acclimation promotes healthier angelfish and reduces the risk of shock.
Preparation
Make sure your aquarium is properly set up and the water conditions are appropriate for angelfish. Turn off the aquarium lights temporarily to reduce stress on the fish during acclimation.
Float the bag
Leave the fish in the sealed bag and gently float the bag on the surface of the Aquarium water for about 15-20 min. This helps the water inside the bag and the aquarium water to gradually come to the same temperature.
Open the bag
After floating, carefully open the bag and fold the top part down. This will create a sort of " collar" that helps keep the bag afloat while preventing the fish from escaping.
Drip method
Attach clean airline tubing to a stable location above the aquarium, making sure the tubing doesn't kink or twist.
Start a slow drip of water from the aquarium into the bag. You can use a valve or a simple knot to control the flow. Allow the water to drip into the bag at a rate of about 2-4 drops per second.
Time the process
Let the drip acclimation process continue for about 1-2 hours. This gradual process helps the fish adjust to any differences in water parameters, such as pH, ammonia, and nitrate levels.
Transfer the fish
After the acclimation period, gently scoop the fish out of the bag using a clean net and transfer them into the aquarium. Avoid adding the water from the bag into the aquarium, as it might contain impurities of pathogens.
Dispose of a water bag
It's a good idea to discard the water from the bag in a responsible manner, as it might contain waste or contaminants.
Observe and monitor
Keep an eye on the angelfish as they adjust to their new home. They might be a bit stressed initially, but they should gradually become more active and comfortable.
Resume normal conditions
After the acclimation process, you can turn on the aquarium lights and resume your normal care routine for the fish.
