Set up the natural environment for angelfish

Angelfish are known for their elegance and distinctive appearance when provided with a natural and comfortable habitat in your aquarium.

Select the right tank

Begin by choosing an adequately sized tank of 20 to 30-gallon aquarium is a good starting point, but larger is even better, as angelfish can grow quite large. Ensure that the tank has sufficient height, preferably around 18 inches or more to accommodate their tall bodies.

Substrate choice

Opt for a fine gravel or sand substrate. Angelfish enjoy sifting through the substrate, so it should be soft to prevent any damage to their delicate fins.

Water parameters

Maintaining stable water conditions, angelfish thrives in slightly acidic to neutral water with a pH range of 6.5 to 7, keeping the water temperature between 75- 82°F ( 24-28°C).

Filtration and aeration

Install a reliable filtration system to keep the water clean and provide gentle aeration. High water quality is essential for the well-being of angelfish.

Aquatic decor

Enhance the natural look of the tank with live or artificial plants. Angelfish appreciate broad-leaved plants such as Amazon swords and java ferns, which also offer them hiding spots. Decorative driftwood and rocks can add aesthetic appeal and provide additional hiding places.

Lighting

Provide moderate lighting. Avoid excessively bright lights, as angelfish come from habitats with subdued lighting in the wild.

Hiding spaces

Angelfish can be territorial, so include caves, PVC pipes, or tall decorations to create hiding spots and break sightlines within the tank. This helps reduce aggression and stress.

Tank mates

Carefully select tank mates that are compatible with angelfish. Peaceful species that occupy different levels of the tank work well, such as tetras, corydoras catfish, and other community fish.

Feeding routine

Offer a diverse diet, including high-quality flakes, pellets, and occasionally treats like frozen or live foods, such as brine shrimp and blood worms. Feed them 2-3 times a day, only providing what they can consume in a few minutes to prevent overfeeding.

Regular maintenance

Commit to regular water changes to maintain water quality. Replacing 10-20℅ of the water weekly helps remove toxins and replenish essential minerals.
