Transportation of Fish Using a Bag

Fish transportation is a process by which fish is transported from one place to another place.

There are mainly 3 purposes for fish transportation:-

  • For fish breeding purposes.
  • Stocking in a nursery pond.
  • For selling purposes.

Fish can easily survive in a transportation bag for about 7 to 9 hours comfortably, and possibly up to two days.

Many fish pet stores will add more oxygen into the bag, meaning that it can survive for up to 48 hours. The survival of the fish will depend largely on the amount of air inside the bag.

Ways to Transport Live fish

One way to transport fish is in a plastic bag. For extra protection and to reduce leaking, use a second plastic bag to cover the first bag. Only healthy fish can be transported.

Use a fish travel tank or transport containers. This product is easily available on Amazon (Buy on Amazon).

The size and age of fish to be transported greatly influence the method and technology of transport, especially as regards oxygen supply.

There are 2 basic transport systems for live fish.

The closed system

A closed system is a sealed container in which all the requirements are self-contained. They are represented by polyethylene bags and other sealed transport units.

Open system

An open system consists of water-filled containers in which the requirements for survival are supplied continuously from outside sources.

The fish to be transported must be healthy and in good condition. Weak fish are killed at a much higher rate than fish in good condition when the transport time is longer. The most important single factor in transporting fish is providing an adequate level of dissolved oxygen.

Transporting fish is a very important part of fish culture. Fish are generally transported in containers such as cans of different sizes, pots of ceramic or metal buckets, and plastic bags.

In fact, almost any clean, waterproof container may be used. Containers may be used. Once fish have been placed in their transport container they are brought to their destination by the quickest possible means that will provide a relatively smooth and direct route. Fish transport must be done carefully in order to be successful.

What is the sufficient amount of oxygen in a fish bag?

This sufficient amount of oxygen in a fish bag is two-thirds of the bag. Water should only take up one-third of the volume of the bag.
